Abstract

808,790. Automatic regulation. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Dec. 14, 1956, No. 38290/56. Class 38 (4). In a constant current electrical power supply with a series transductor between supply and load circuits, having auxiliary windings fed from a constant voltage D.C. source and by feed-back from the load terminals, their fluxes are additive. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, A.C. mains 3 provide a D.C. output 4 by means of transformer 2 and rectifier bridge 8. In series with the supply circuit is the load winding of a transductor 1. Auxiliary windings 6, 7 are respectively fed from a source of fixed D.C. bias 5, and by feed-back from across the output terminals, the polarities being such that their resultant fluxes add. Rheostats 10, 11 allow for variation in the level of bias and the degree of feed-back. From the circuit characteristics Fig. 4, it can be seen that for a given bias there is a range of substantially constant current and that the open-circuit voltage is relatively low. In an embodiment providing A.C. output current (Fig. 2, not shown), a rectifier bridge is connected across the output to supply the feed-back winding.
