Abstract

629,885. Automatic current control systems. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 22, 1944, No. 18103. Convention date, Sept. 23, 1943. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVII] Current strength.-In a slip regulator for an induction motor 10 the movable electrodes 19 of the liquid resistance 14 in the motor circuit are moved by the D.C. motor 28 supplied by the variable voltage generator 29 which is excited by an armature reaction excited machine 30 having a winding 30e supplied with current in proportion to that supplied to the motor 10. Exciter 30 has also separately excited field winding 30c, acting in the same sense as 30e, and opposing winding 30d supplied by generator 29 through variable resistance. When the motor 10 is connected to the A.C. supply and is running, the current transformer 42 feeds field winding 30e of exciter 30 through rectifier 40 and regulating resistance 41 which is adjusted according to the stable value of current desired to be supplied to the motor 10. On any increase in current above this value the field winding 30e increases the excitation of exciter 30 and hence also the voltage applied to motor 28 which raises the electrodes 19 to tend to restore the current to the predetermined value. On any decrease in current the opposite action results. A transformer 52 having its primary winding across the armature of exciter 30 and its secondary winding across field winding 30c opposes hunting.
