737,342. Endless conveyers. GREBE, K. July 6, 1953 [July 4, 1952; Oct. 31, 1952], No. 18688/53. Class 78 (1). A travelling chain having a belt conveyer surface supported on the links has each chain link 3 connected by a ball joint 1 and has mounted a supporting roller 12 and a guide roller 11 at each side with mutually perpendicular axes disposed in the same plane as the ball joint which plane lies perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the belt. The ball 1 on the end of a link 3 engages a socket 2 in a cross-member 8 having an extension 7 in which the end of the next link 3 is secured by a pin 5. The ends of each member 8 carry rollers 11, 12 running on tracks provided. The rollers may be connected to a bracket attached beneath the member 8. Members 17, 17<SP>1</SP> are hinged to the members 8 by pins 15 as is also a spring 16. The conveyer belt may be riveted to the members 17, 171, or the belt may be provided with an end flap for slipping over these members when raised. In an alternative form the ball joint is mounted forwardly or rearwardly of the member 8 and another releasable connection is provided between the link and boss on the member 8. The rollers 12 are arranged above the rollers 11 and in the same plane as the ball joint. In another form the link incorporates extensions with one or more cross-members shorter than the link 8 and without rollers. Pockets can be separately vulcanized to the conveyer belt or the edge may be reinforced with a continuous strip with or without intermediate layers.
