736,053. Coating cables &c. by extrusion. S.A.S. LAVORAZIONE MATERIE PLASTICHE (L.M.P.) DI M. I. COLOMBO & CO. June 10, 1953 [June 17, 1952], No. 16019/53. Class 87 (2). Two or more coatings of plastic material are applied to a wire or cable by an extrusion machine having two or more presses. From each press the path of the material divides into two, then each of these two paths divided into two paths, so that the material is divided into four portions (or eight portions), Fig. 2 (not shown), by the time it gets to the point of application to the wire. The lengths of the four paths are equal to each other so that the resistances met by the portions of material'are equal to each other. Fig. 3 shows the head of a machine having two presses. 'One press feeds material to a conduit 9 and another press feeds material to a conduit 10. From conduit 9 the material passes into the centre of a semi-circular channel 12, Fig. 4, which feeds at its ends two channels 13, Fig. 5. Each channel 13 then similarly branches through channels 14 into four channels 15, which lead into a space 16 where the material forms a first coating on a wire travelling vertically downwards through members 22, 18, 21. The channels 15, are disposed at the vertices of a regular polygon, as shown a square. The material fed in at 10 follows similar paths, emerging at 19 to form a second coating on the first coating. The various channels are formed in or between eight plates I ... 8 held together by bolts 11. The ratio between the quantities of materials fed by the two temperatures and the temperatures of the materials, may be varied.
