Abstract
735,331. Angular bending; mandrels. LAWLER, AYERS & CO., Ltd. Dec. 11, 1953 [Dec. 19, 1952], No. 32259/52. Class 83 (4). A tube bending machine in which the tubes are clamped to a rotatable former and guided to the former over internal mandrels has a former mounted between a pair of plates, a pair of legs rigid with the plates forming the rear legs of a stand and a pair of legs hinged to the plates forming when extended, the front legs of the stand, rods parallel with the rigid rear legs having shaped ends constituting the mandrels. Parallel plates 3 have rear legs 5 rigidly secured thereto and front legs 6 hingedly secured thereto. A grooved bending former 1 is rotatably mounted between the plates and rods 11 with hemispherical mandrel heads 12 are mounted parallel to the legs 5. In operation, tubes to be bent are slipped over the mandrels, a grooved guide 10 pivoted to the plates 3 is moved towards the former 1 by a cam 13 (not shown), rotated by a handle 14, to guide the tubes and a grooved clamp 17, slidable in plates 17a secured to the former 1, is moved by a cam 18 rotated by a handle 19 to clamp the tubes to the former; the former is then rotated by a handle 3a to bend the tubes. The mandrels are released from the tubes by kicking a plate 23 engaging the lower ends of the rods 11.
