Abstract

264,275. Newton, F. Nov. 9, 1925. Angular bending. - In a handoperated tube bender of the kind in which a former is moved between a pair of adjustable wheels, the parts are mounted between a pair of plates bolted at their front end to a bar through which passes the screw to which the former is detachably secured, the stationary formers or wheels being held by pins passing through holes in the plates, and additional wheels or formers being connected to screws at each side of the main screw so as to effect a number of bends. A hinged plate 1, 1<a> and a plate 2 are bolted to a bar 3 at one end and secured at each side to channel irons 34 which rest on a bench &c. The plates are provided with elongated slots 18, 19, 26, 27 to guide the detachable pins 15, 24 of formers 14, 25 which are adjusted by screws 5, 23. The heads of the screws are rotated through ball bearings 9, 11 in blocks 6 which have arms 13 drilled to receive the pins carrying the formers. The block for the centre screw 5 has an extension 20 running in the slot 18 to prevent canting sideways. The plate 1 is lifted and formers 31 placed over the required holes 29 in the lower plate whereupon the plate 1 is lowered and pins 30 passed through the holes in both plates to hold the formers 31 in position. The tube is passed through the plates between the formers 25, 31 and the former 14 then pushed forward by the screw 5 to bend the tube. Pins 35 are provided to support the plate 1 when open and distance pieces 36 pivoted to the top plates are provide'd at the open end of the plates.
