[Classes 83 (iii) and 83 (iv).] In an apparatus for positioning sectionbars for punching, drilling, &c. without previous centre-popping, a truck 14 is movable on rails 3 on a frame 1. The bar B is gripped and adjusted transversely by jaws 15, 16 by handoperated screws and is adjusted vertically by hand screws. A frame 2 carries rollers 25 vertically adjusted by racks 21 for supporting the end of the bar. A scale 22 is supported by the racks and a stop B adjustable on the scale forms a gauging stop for the bar. In a modification Fig. 8, a bar 69 is positioned in a punching machine 125 on trucks 37, 38. The truck 37 carries adjustable grippers 15, 16 and the truck 38 carries a work stop 67. Rollers 57 adjusted by racks 54 position the bar transversely. After the first hole is punched the truck 38 is secured to the bar by a rod 65 and the truck is moved by an endless wire rope 39 driven by an electromotor or a hand-crank 44. An endless tape measure, not shown, is attached to the truck 38 for indicating the distance between holes. In a further modification a plurality of angle-bars are moved through a drilling machine by two trucks. On one truck is an auxiliary carriage for moving the bars to a position for drilling the first hole and securing the bars by jaws on the truck. The carriage and the truck are then secured together for drilling the rest of the holes.
