Abstract
555,226. Assembly jig. BUDD MANUFACTURING CO. B. G. Feb. 28, 1942, No. 2657. Convention date, April 8, 1941. [Class 83 (iii)] An assembly jig comprises upright columns 33, Figs. 4 and 6, spaced or adjustable on longitudinal supports 34. 35. Each column may have jaws 43, 45, sliding along guide rails 37, 36 of the supports and secured thereto by bolts 44, 46, and may be adjusted by a rack 47, and pinions 48, the positions being indicated by scales 51, 52 and pointers. Each column may carry fixed brackets 67 and rods 55 vertically movable in brackets 56 and resting on flexible strips 58 adjustably supported by screws 75 to give any desired camber to the work. Each rod may carry a bracket 62, to engage the lower end of an upright 10 of a truss frame for a vehicle body, and brackets 59 to support longitudinal members 19. The brackets 59, 62 may be fixed by clamping directly to the rods 55 or by supporting clamps 63 or both. An upright 10 may be clamped to the bracket 62 by a rotary wedge 66 and to the bracket 67 by a clamp 72, Fig. 7 ; clamp 68, Fig. 8, having a flexible strip 71 to receive the wear of the eccentric 69, or a toggle clamp 73, Fig. 9.
