766,526. Work-holders. RAIMANN GES., B. March 28, 1955 [Dec. 1, 1954], No. 8969/55. Class 83 (3). [Also in Group XXIII] A work-holder comprises a U -clamp 7, one limb of which is adjustably-secured to the inner face of the work-engaging arm of a carrier 3 while the other clamps the work 4 against the outer face of the arm, the other arm of the carrier being adjustably-secured to a guide 2. A bush 11, attached to the lower limb of the clamp, forms a cylinder for a piston 12 fixed on a rod 8 secured to a dove-tailed slide 6 in a groove 5 in the carrier. Air or water under pressure, entering the cylinder through a passage 14 in the rod 8, displaces the cylinder and clamp to secure the work, between the carrier and a plate 9 rotatably-mounted on a stud 10 in the upper limb of the clamp. The clamp is rotatable about the rod 8 and stud 10, and more than two carriers 3 may be used, each supporting a number of clamps and being movable along at least two guides 2 by adjustable bars or tubes 15. The piston may be replaced by mechanical means, such as screws or a lever.
