Abstract

735,116. Earth-excavating apparatus. PRIESTMAN BROS., Ltd. May 14, 1953 [May 28, 1952], No. 13584/52. Class 68(1). In a bucket excavator in which a bucket 9 is so mounted on a jib by a pair of arms 5, 7 that the jib, bucket and arms form an adjustable quadrilateral linkage, there is provided on the bucket to align with holes 20 in the lower end of one of the arms, as shown the arm 5, holes 14-16. The axes of the holes 14-16 are disposed on the same arcuate surface as that over which the axis of the holes 20 is constrained to move as the bucket is rotated about its connecting pin 10 with the other arm 5, so that the holes 20 are brought automatically into alignment with each of the pairs of holes 14-16 to permit of the insertion of a pin 17. The axis of the arcuate surface preferably coincides with the axis of the connection 10, and the end of the arm 5 is constrained to move in the above described manner, when the pin 17 is removed, by one or two radius arms 13 pivotally connected to the journal 20. Preferably the adjustable connection is between the rear of the bucket and the arm 5, and a screw jack is provided for adjusting the arm and bucket when the pin 17 is removed.
