Abstract

734,417. Two-part couplings. SIMMONDS & STOKES (NIPHAN), Ltd. June 16, 1953 [June 16, 1952], No. 15121/52. Class 38 (1) To avoid bending of the supply cable to a plug and socket connector for vehicles requiring to be connected periodically to supply mains, the plug 7 (or socket) is pivotally mounted at 8 in a gimbal ring 6 in turn pivotally mounted at 5, at right angles to the pivot axis 8, in a shield 4 rigidly secured to the vehicle, whereby the plug may swing in all directions. A cover 14 pivoted to shell 4 is spring-urged to cover the plug when the socket 2 is removed. In lieu of gimbals the plug body may be spherical and be mounted in a spherical seating.
