Abstract

733,935. Manure distributers. LEA, W. E. Nov. 9, 1953 [Nov. 17, 1952; May 8, 1953], Nos. 28914/52 and 12847/53. Class 6 (1). A fertilizer-distributer comprises a hopper 22 from which material is fed to two partiallyoverlapping vaned discs 19, the material being fed off-centre so that it will tend to be ejected over a pair of overlapping sectors of distribution, the densitygradients of which are opposed to one another. The hopper has tapering walls leading to a trough wherein a pair of paddle-wheels 30 eject the material through apertures controlled by adjustable shutters 27. The machine is mounted on land-wheels 34 driving half-shafts 13 to which the axles 16 of the vaned discs are connected by bevel gears 14, 15, one of the wheels also driving the paddle-wheel axle 28 by a beltdrive 31. In a modification, the device is wholly mounted on tractor draught-links through connections 35 on the chassis 10, the wheels 34 being then omitted and the halfshafts 13 being interconnected by a shaft 36. The drive is taken from the tractor powertake-off by a jointed shaft 37. The off-centre feed results in an asymmetrical density distribution in the ejected stream but by overlapping two streams a substantially uniform spread is obtainable. The distribution-overlap may be produced either by arranging the discs at different levels, as shown, or by tilting them relatively to one another. According to the first Provisional Specification, a screen, W- shaped in plan, may be mounted in front of the spreaders to ensure rearward distribution.
