Abstract

733,538. Gas turbine plant. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Aug. 21, 1953 (Sept. 15, 1952], No. 23158/53. Class 110 (3). A gas turbine plant is started by the expansion of part of the pressure head of an auxiliary turbine in one part of a stage of the main turbine, the auxiliary turbine being brought to operating speed by a device for the combustion of an explosive mixture. A gas turbine plant comprising a turbine 2, compressor 1, combustion chamber 3 and heat-exchanger 4 is started by means of an auxiliary turbine plant comprising a turbine 6, compressor 5 and combustion chamber 7, the exhaust from turbine 6 passing to a nozzle of the main turbine 2. The auxiliary turbine plant is started by means of a cartridge starter 8 or by a device for the combustion of an explosive mixture forming part of a gas turbine operating on a constant-volume cycle. When the main turbine 2 has been started, valve 9 is closed and valve 11 is opened to allow the exhaust gas from the auxiliary turbine 6 to be discharged to atmosphere.
