Abstract
733,335. Fluid-pressure servomotors; valves. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Ltd. May 16, 1952 [May 24, 1951], No. 12171/51. Class 135. A pressure-regulating valve for controlling the supply of liquid to hydraulic apparatus such as a servomotor system for controlling the attitude and direction of flight of an aircraft and functioning to provide a gradual rise of pressure to the working value when the supply is initiated comprises differential pistons 2, 8 of which the piston 2 controls an inlet 1 from the source of pressure liquid and the space between the pistons is subject to the controlled pressure whereby an upward or valve-closing thrust is produced which is opposed by a spring 14. The outlet conduit 3 from the valve passes to a piston valve 4, 6 controlled by a variable-torque clutch 17 and arranged to connect a conduit 5 leading to the hydraulic apparatus with either the conduit 3 or an exhaust 7. Pressure in the conduit 5 communicates through a passage 10 containing a restriction 11 with a piston 13 serving as an abutment for the spring 14 whereby a gradual increase in the spring- loading on the pistons 2, 8 is obtained after the valve 4, 6 has been set to interconnect the conduits 3, 5.
