Abstract
Citric acid soluble tricalcium phosphate of a -form is manufactured by sintering fluorine-containing phosphate rock in the presence of water vapour and 1-2 atoms of Na in the form of a salt (e.g. carbonate or phosphate) per atom of calcium combined with fluorine in said rock. When Glauber's salt is used as the sodium salt, carbonaceous material must be added in a quantity at least equal to that theoretically required for the decomposition of Na2SO4 to Na2SO3 (when CO is formed in the reaction); when the silica content of the rock is low, at least sufficient silica to combine with the liberated CaO must be added. A rotary, shaft or reverberatory furnace may be used. In examples, temperatures between 900 DEG and 1400 DEG C. are employed, and the use of a substantial excess of silica is illustrated.ALSO:A sintered phosphatic fertilizer comprising citric acid soluble tricalcium phosphate of a -form is manufactured by sintering fluorine-containing phosphate rock in the presence of water vapour and 1-2 atoms of Na in the form of a salt (e.g. carbonate or phosphate) per atom of calcium combined with fluorine in said rock. When Glauber's salt is used as the sodium salt, carbonaceous material must be added; when the silica content of the rock is low, silica must be added.
