Abstract

A process for the manufacture of wrapped briquettes comprises the step of applying to, or forming on, one or both of a pair of rollers in a briquetting press a sheet or film of a wrapping material at the same time as or before the briquetting mixture is fed to the rollers. The rollers have recesses in which briquettes are formed, being at the same time covered with the wrapping material. Two rolls of paper, plastic or metal foil may be p positioned near the rollers of the press and two lengths of material drawn from them into the nip, the briquette-forming mixture being fed between them. The material may be dished or perforated and may carry marking or wording. Alternatively the wrapping material may be applied as a liquid coating to the press rollers, by spraying or dipping, solidifying on them, by cooling, to form a film. Suitable materials for this purpose are paraffin wax, phenol formaldehyde resin, colloidal graphite or carbon black suspensions in oil or water, or micronized oil suspensions in oil and water.
