Abstract

<PICT:0697512/III/1> In apparatus consisting of two cylinders or rollers 1, 2 for coating smooth surfaces 5 of sheet material with liquid material 6 in the nip of the cylinders or rollers, one or both of the cylinders or rollers has wound around it a metal wire 3 and/or 4 with the individual turns of wire spaced apart; these serve as spacers to control the thickness and uniform distribution of the coating. The diameters of the wires of the cylinders or rollers may be varied according to the thickness of the coating required, and the distance between the rollers may also be varied to enable different depths of coating to be obtained on the same sheet of material. The apparatus may be used for the application of insulating materials to sheet iron.
