Abstract

[Also in Groups XXIII] A clamp for securing an outboard motor to a boat 29 comprises a base plate member 28 having arms 31 and 32 which straddle the board 30. The arm 31 is provided with rack teeth 33 and an opening to slidably receive the stem 34 of a pressure applying pad 38 which is swivelled on the stem. A nut 37 threaded on the inner end of the stem abuts a resilient arm 35 pivoted at 36 to the member 28. A wedge 40 adapted to engage the teeth 33 has a base 41 which is slidable on the arm 35. A handle 43 is slidably mounted in a sleeve 42 which is secured to the end of the arm, the sleeve being provided with slots to receive a pin 44 mounted transversely on the handle. One end of a compression spring is anchored to the pin 44, the other end being secured to the wedge. On pressure being applied to the handle the arm 35 acts against the nut 37 to force the pad into tight gripping engagement with the board. The handle is turned slightly to engage the cross pin 44 in off-set recesses at the upper ends of the slots. In a modification, Fig. 6, (not shown), the stern of the pad is slidably received in a socket in a bolt which carries a nut, the stern being spring pressed outwardly to urge the pad towards the board 30.
