Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:0731499/IV (b)/1> and salts thereof, wherein R and R1 are alkyl radicals with 1 to 4 carbon atoms inclusive, R2 is hydrogen or an alkyl or aralkyl radical, n is an integer from 1 to 3 inclusive, and the second substituent <FORM:0731499/IV (b)/2> is in the 6- or 4-position. The compounds are prepared by reacting an alkali metal derivative of a hydroxy-desoxybenzoin of formula <FORM:0731499/IV (b)/3> in which M represents an alkali metal (preferably sodium), with a tertiary halogenated base of formula <FORM:0731499/IV (b)/4> in which X is halogen. The reaction is preferably effected by heating an alcohol solution of the reactants in a water bath, the alkali metal derivative of the hydroxy-desoxybenzoin being preferably prepared in situ. The reaction mixture is then acidified to form the amine salt, the solvent evaporated, and the compounds isolated as the amine salt or subsequently alkalized to give the free amine. The examples describe the preparation of 2.4-bis-diethylaminoethoxy -, 2.6 - bis - diethylaminoethoxy-5 - hexyl -, 2.4 - bis-dimethylaminoethoxy-, 2.4 - bis - dibutylaminoethoxy-, and 2.4-bis-b -diethylaminoisopropoxy-desoxybenzoin and the dihydrochlorides and sulphates thereof.ALSO:A human or veterinary medicine comprises as an essential ingredient desoxybenzoin derivatives of formula: <FORM:0731499/VI/1> and salts thereof (including dihydrochloride and sulphate), wherein R and R1 are alkyl radicals with 1 to 4 carbon atoms inclusive, R2 is hydrogen or an alkyl or aralkyl radical, n is an integer from 1 to 3 inclusive, and the second substituent O-(CH2)n-N-R, is in the 6- or R1 4-position. Preparations are in the form of pills, tablets or injections in the form of aqueous solutions or oily suspensions.
