Abstract

731,163. Dynamo-electric machines with rotating brushes. JONES, G. L. R. March 10, 1953 [March 27, 1952], No. 7911/52. Class 35. Single or polyphase A.C. is derived from rotating brushes 4 on the commutator 3 of a separately excited D.C. dynamo, the output frequency being controlled by adjusting the speed of the brushes. The motor 11 which drives the brushes through a pulley .12 is supplied by a generator 15 driven from the dynamo shaft, its. speed being controlled by varying the generator field by rheostat 14. The rotating brush holders are provided with counterbalance weights adjustably secured by a screw 21 on a counterbalance arm 7 to nullify the effect of centrifugal force. In a modification the arm is threaded for screw adjustment of the weights. Commutation is improved by the use of multiple windings connected by resistances. In Fig. 4 triple windings 16, 17, 18 are joined by resistances 19.
