Abstract

730,717. Geiger counters. ROBERTSHAWFULTON CONTROLS CO. Nov. 28, 1951, No. 27941/51. Drawings to Specification. Class 39 (1). [Also in Group XL (b)] A photon counter responsive to ultra-violet light for detecting failure of a burner flame and cutting off the fuel supply is constructed like a Geiger-Muller tube. The cathode is cylindrical and is of copper with a thin covering of copper oxide. The anode wire is of tungsten maintained centrally in the cathode. The tube is filled with a mixture of alcohol vapour and argon though it is stated that the gases such as hydrogen may be substituted. The envelope is of glass and is provided with a quartz window. The copper oxide covering of the cathode is stated to render the cathode sensitive to wavelengths below 2900 A.
