In an oil burner in which the oil is atomized by compressed air and comprising a body 1 having separate valve controlled oil and air ducts 6, 4, the body has a conical end surface 30 along the axis of which is detachably mounted an air turbulence-creating device 31 within a cap 38 having a frusto-conical end engaging the conical end 30 of the body, the device 31 having the shape of a body of revolution and having an axial bore 50 communicating with the oil duct 6 and having helical grooves 41 through which air passes from an annular space a surrounding a member 32 integral with the device 31 to an annular passage 43 surrounding the outlet of the axial bore 50, and the oil and air are mixed in a chamber 44 formed in an element 45 detachably mounted in the cap 38. The helical grooves 41 are-formed in a cylindrical part of the device 31 and connect with a conical convergent passage leading to the annular passage 43 and formed between conical surfaces on the device 31 and the cap 38. The device 31 is screwed into an axial oil duct in the body 1 and a conical surface 33 on the integral member 32 bears against the inner part of the conical end surface 30 of the body 1. The element 45 is held on the cap 38 by a nut 47 and has a conical surface engaging a conical surface of the cap. The oil-air mixture discharges through a single or a plurality of orifices in the element 45. The cap 38 is secured to the body 1 by a nut 36. The oil valve comprises an axially movable rod 17 having a hollow end 17<SP>1</SP> which is a sliding fit in an oil duct 7 forming a reduced diameter extension of the oil duct 6 and which has a slot 18 through which the oil enters the hollow end from the duct 6.
