The electric igniter as described and claimed in the parent Specification is modified in that (a) the housing is formed by a lower cup-like part 3, Fig. 3, on which is threaded an upper inverted cup-like part 2; (b) the inductor 79 is mounted coaxially within the battery carrier 20; (c) the ignition contacts 36, 37, Fig. 6, each form a transverse extension of an end coil of a helical spring 39, 40 respectively; and (d) the fuel reservoir 10 is formed in the part 3 below the lower plate 23 of the battery carrier which rests on a sealing ring 13 carried on an annular shoulder 11 of the part 3 to seal the periphery of the reservoir 10. A wick at the flared end 50 of the torch 48 rests on and absorbs fuel from a wick 17 pressed upwardly by a spring 16 within the fuel reservoir 10, which also contains an absorbent felt ring 18, or cotton wool, or other fibrous material. On withdrawal of the torch 48 the flared end 50 thereof raises the ignition contacts 36, 37 to rotate helical springs 39, 40 and bring arms 43, 44 of these springs into electrical contact with two fixed terminals 45, 46 (45 only shown) to complete the electrical circuit through the batteries and inductor. On continued withdrawal of the torch 48 the ignition contacts 36, 37 are released to produce the spark or sparks for igniting the torch, and the torsional stress of the springs 39, 40 will be released to allow the arms 43, 44 to move downwardly from the terminals 45, 46, until they are arrested by insulating collars 74 on the bolts carrying the terminals.
