A stress-relieving device for use with a high voltage bushing 6 comprises an annulus 1 which can be mounted in electrical connection with the bushing conductor (not shown) and in such a position that it surrounds one end of the bushing and extends beyond that end to modify adjacent internal and external electric fields respectively. The annulus 1 may have a substantially-oval cross-section, the major axis of the oval extending parallel to the axis of the annulus, and may be provided with a central transverse mounting portion 3 which can be secured against the end face of the bushing conductor or constitute or be secured against a conductive end member 5 provided on the bushing in contact with the conductor. The inner diameter of the annulus may be such that it is spaced from the bushing, and it may be supported by a plurality of radial spokes 2 extending outwardly from the conductor or the mounting portion 3, and shaped so as to merge smoothly into the surface of the annulus. At least the annulus 1 and spokes 2 may be bound with insulating tape.
