Abstract

729,612. Electrostatic filters. AIR PREHEATER CORPORATION. March 24, 1953 [March 27, 1952], No. 8040/53. Class 39 (1). An apparatus for separating suspended particles from a gas stream comprises vanes 6 for imparting a whirling motion to the gas stream, a discharge electrode 9 having a series of overlapping portions forming louvres, and concentric outlets 4, 5. Clean gas is discharged through the inner outlet 4 while the collected dust particles are discharged through the outlet 5. The discharge electrode shown comprises a flat metal strip wound into a tapered coil. It may comprise a plurality of overlapping frusto-conical members. The insulator 8 carrying the discharge electrode is supported by the vanes 6. The collector electrode 1 may be louvered.
