729,384. Optical apparatus. NICOLSON (SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS), Ltd., W.B. June 12, 1953, No. 16177/53. Class 97 (1). [Also in Group XV] An apparatus for demonstrating theory of light comprises a source of light 13 within a container 1 which has a plurality of light outlets 3, 4, 5 and movable reflecting means 6, 7, for reflecting at least one of the resulting beams of light, the arrangement being such that on filters of different colour being inserted in the light beams the coloured beams can be projected on a screen 24, and by actuating the reflecting means the projected colours R, B, Cr can be superimposed to demonstrate the effect of colour mixing. Side apertures 4, 5 are narrower than aperture 3 so that similar bands of colour are projected on the screen. The colour filters are received in sockets 10, 11, 12. The axial filament light bulbs 13 is mounted in a holder slidable along a slot 15. In the other end wall 18 of the container is mounted a plano convex collimating lens 19, and socket 20 receives a comb 21 and a colour filter if required. The container is flanged at 23 for mounting on a light track board. The screen 24 is preferably of milk glass. The apparatus may be used with the light track board to demonstrate reflection and refraction using, for example, a lens and prism and a rotatable disc for measuring angles of refraction.
