Abstract
1,226,855. Lamp signal. RAILROAD ACCESSORIES CORP. 30 Aug., 1968 [20 May, 1968], No. 41631/68. Heading B7N. [Also in Divisions F4, G2 and H1] A lamp signal for railways comprises a casing 32, three lamps 54, 55, 57 each constructed and arranged when energized to focus its light output at the entry of a bundle of optical fibres 72, 80 or 82, a cone shaped member 52 supporting at its apex the end of an optical fibre trunk 56 formed by combining the fibre bundles and a lens 34 which collimates light 100 issuing from the end of the fibre trunk 56. Red, yellow and green filters are provided between respective lamps and their associated fibre bundle ends and signalling current is applied to the lamps from terminals 90 via light intensity adjusting variable resistors 92. The lamps may be formed with an ellipsoidal reflector surface 112 at the rear, an annular shaped segment 114 of a spherical reflector surface at the front surrounding a transparent window 116. A sighting device may be provided for aligning the lamp with the railway track. The sighting device is aligned with the signal beam in the factory by adjusting the beam position until four photo-cells mounted in the corners of a target board, Fig. 9 (not shown), receive equal light and then aligning the sighting element with a set point on the target board.
