728,781. Hand-operated pumps. MONITOR ENGINEERING & OIL APPLIANCES, Ltd. Dec. 21, 1953 [Jan. 6, 1953], No. 356/53. Class 8(1). In an air pump for applying pressure to fluid in a reservoir and comprising a hand operated piston 2 in a cylinder barrel 1, a valve assembly comprises a cup-shaped pressing 4 sealed in the barrel 1 and having a valve seat 6 on which is seated a valve disc 8 of natural or synthetic rubber, by means of a volute spring 9 which engages a flange 12 on the pressing 4 at one eud and a depression 10 in the disc 8 at the other. The pressing 4 has a shoulder 7 which engages the barrel 1 and is soldered thereto.
