Abstract
728,001. Changing signs. WHITELEY, N. L. Sept. 2, 1952, No. 22108/52. Class 3 (1). [Also in Group XI] An illuminating device comprises an apertured cylinder 8 which is mounted for rotation about its vertical axis and which is formed at its upper end with a plurality of vanes or the like 16 whereby the flow of heated air from an electric lamp 9 within the cylinder will cause it to rotate, an inner wall of refracting material having at least one face non-planer surrounding the cylinder and an outer wall of translucent material surrounding the inner wall. As shown the inner wall consists of four sheets 3 of hammered glass attached to the inside edges of upper and lower rectangular frames 1, 2. The outer wall is attached to the outside edges of the frames and consists of a sheet 4 of translucent material. The cylinder 8 is mounted on a pivot 13 for rotation by convection currents from the lamp 9. The wall of the cylinder 8 has apertures 17 which may be covered by coloured pieces of transparent material 18. Advertising stencils and cut-outs may be fixed to the sheet 4. In a modification the casing may be cylindrical instead of rectangular in shape.
