Abstract
727,909. Vehicle frames. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. July 21, 1952 [July 21, 1951], No. 18377/52. Classes 79(3) and 79(4). In a motor vehicle the chassis frame comprises a hollow longitudinal having a horizontal middle portion and an upwardly directly front portion closely behind the front wheels, the upwardly directed portion supporting a front transverse member so that a foot space is provided below the transverse member and above a floor disposed underneath the frame. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the frame is formed by box sectioned longitudinals 7 having their forward ends bent upwardly and terminating rearwardly of the front wheels 2. The longitudinals 7 are interconnected at the front by the transverse tubular member 8 having its ends projecting beyond the longitudinals, and a box sectioned transverse member 10 arranged only between the members 7 and arranged to carry the steering column 11 and an instrument panel. The longitudinals 7 are also interconnected by a transverse member 12, arranged beneath the seat, and a transverse member 13. The floor 6 is secured beneath the members 7 and following the bent portions to form the foot space 4. The bent portions of the members 7 house jacks 14. In another embodiment, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the frame is formed of a looped member interconnected by a front transverse member and a rearward transverse member of chevron shape in plan view. In a further embodiment, Fig. 6, the invention is applied to a cellular vehicle, the frame of the middle cell being formed of longitudinals 18 and transversals 19, 20. The frames 24 of the end cells are articulated to the transversals 19 on which are provided resilient supports for the body of the middle cell. The front transversal 19 carries a box section steering column 21. Specification 712,822 is referred to.
