Abstract

727,380. Binding-posts. GARNEROT & CO. (CONSOLIDATED AGENCIES), Ltd. Aug. 21, 1953, No. 23109/53. Class 38 (1). A terminal comprises a hoop 1, Fig. 1, having teeth 3 bent up from its inside lower face which are pressed against a lead 6 inserted between them and a contact member 2, by a spring 5, the hoop being depressed to allow insertion of the lead. Ridges or teeth may be formed on the surface of member 2 adjacent the lead. Alternatively the teeth may be formed on a separate member of harder metal than the terminal, which member is then secured to the terminal (Fig. 5, not shown). Where more than one lead is to be clamped in the terminal (Fig. 4a, not shown), teeth may also be formed on the inner side faces of the hoop. Fig. 6 shows a connector comprising an insulating body 16 in recesses 17 at opposite ends of which are housed terminals substantially as shown in Fig. 1 except that a common leaf-spring 18 replaces springs 5 and insulating depression members 21 are provided on the hoops, the terminals also having a common contact member 2. In Fig. 8, the hoop 1 is mounted on a screw-threaded mounting post 23, the contact member 24 comprising a small plate having lugs 25 sliding in slots in the sides of the hoop and serving for moving the member to permit insertion of a lead. The spring may be mainly disposed in a bore in post 23 (Fig. 9, not shown), the contact member being pressed against the top of the loop.
