726,389. Locks. LOWENADLER, F. W. July 29, 1953, No. 21059/53. Class 44. [Also in Group XXXI] A locking device for motor vehicles comprises a sleeve 1 secured to the inside of the flywheel housing 17, and outwardly of which a piston 2 is urged by a spring 11, a bolt 5 being slidable within a casing 4 under the action of a spring 6 so as to engage a recess 10 in the piston 2 which is thereby held in a locking position, a yoke 3 rigid with the piston 2 then engaging the clutch bearing 20. The bolt 5 is adapted to be actuated by a control mechanism so that it can be moved out of engagement with the recess 10 to permit the piston 2 to slide freely in the sleeve. As shown, the control mechanism comprises a cam 7 which can be rotated by a rectangular cross-section rod 14 actuated by the key of a barrel lock 22 mounted in the flywheel housing. The cam 7 acts upon a member 8 rigid with the bolt 5. The movement of the cam 7 is restricted to one quarter of a turn, by engagement at either limit of rotation, with the upper side of the casing 4, and a projection 9 respectively. In operation, if the cam 7 is turned to the position in which it releases the bolt 5, the latter slips into the recess 10 as soon as the clutch is disengaged. The clutch is then held from reengagement until the cam 7 is turned back to its previous position.
