A spark ignition electrode unit for igniting a burner comprises a conductor 42 carrying an ignition electrode 34 and passing through a sleeve 44 and apertures in ceramic end pieces 38, 40, and having projections 70 holding a washer 74 against the end piece 40, whilst a spring 76 is interposed between the end pieec 38 and a terminal 82 on the conductor' 42, and holds the end pieces 38, 40 in abutment against the sleeve 44 whilst allowing the conductor 42 and the sleeve 44 to expand differentially when the unit becomes heated, as when 'used e.g. in a bakery oven. The sleeve 44 and the end pieces 38, 40 may be so shaped that relative rotation therebetween is prevented. In an alternative construction a ring held on the electrode-carrying end of the conductor by a screw bears directly against the adjacent ceramic end piece.
