Abstract
616,605. Electric igniters. FOX, P. X. Sept. 9, 1946, No. 27007. [Class 75 (iii)] In an electric lighter a wick torch 16 comprising a hollow tube forming a fuel reservoir is ignited by an electric ignition element 13 supported on a casing 10 having a pocket 15a for holding the wick torch 16. The ignition element 13 may be supplied from the mains by means of a stepdown transformer housed in the casing 10 or from a battery. The electric circuit may be completed by a switch contained in the pocket 15a and operated by removing the torch 16 therefrom, or the metal body of the torch 16 may bridge a gap between two contacts disposed beside the ignition element 13, or the slotted guard 14 for the ignition element 13 may be resiliently mounted to serve as a press button switch operable by the torch 16, or a manually operated press button switch may be provided. The lighter may be combined with an electric clock or desk lamp. In the Provisional Specification it is stated that the element 13 can be supplied from a car battery through a dropping resistance. If supplied from the mains the current may be left on continuously.
