A container 2 of plastic and having a sealing ridge 3 formed with a chamfer 4 is closed by a lid 1 of plastic and having an inwardly projecting bead 7 and sealing surface 6, the lid being elastically deformed when applied so that the ridge 3 engages the surface 6 and bead 7 engages beneath ridge 3 to prevent displacement of the lid. An enlargement 8 ensures automatic centralisation of the lid and it is stated that the lid should be more elastic than the container by making for example the container of polystyrene, cellulose acetate or cellulose-acetone-butyrate and the lid of a soft polyethylene or a softened polyvinyl chloride.
