Abstract
724,901. Signal lamps. BENGTSSON, S. W. Jan. 2, 1953, No. 148/53. Class 75 (2) and 75 (4) [Also in Group XXXVIII] A signal lamp unit for use with a motor vehicle direction indicator system' of the flashing light type (see Group XXXVIII) comprises a housing for two electric lamps 1 and 2, fitted in sockets 4 and 5 mounted respectively on staggered vertical surfaces 6 and 6<SP>1</SP>, of a base member 3 adapted to co-operate with a removable casing 7 of non- transparent material but having openings 8 and 9 therein. The opening 8 is opposite lamp 1 and is somewhat forward of opening 9 opposite lamp 2, and both openings extend over a horizontal arc of about 180 degrees. The portion of the casing between the windows is provided with a partition 46 to prevent light from the lower lamp reaching the upper window and vice versa. A screw 19 serves to secure casing 7 to the base 3. Arcuate cylindrical lenses 10 and 11, which may be made of synthetic resin, are fitted in the openings 8 and 9, the pins 12 thereon (Fig. 5) fitting into holes 13 (Fig. 3) and being secured by welding or glueing. Above each lens is a shield-shaped projection 15 and 16 respectively to prevent reflection of light from external sources and to act as a drip moulding. The lamps are fitted so that their filaments are substantially vertical to give a broader light beam.
