539,135. Systems of lighting for road vehicles. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 22, 1940, No. 13347. Convention date, Aug. 25, 1939. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] In a headlamp for projecting polarized light, a definite zone of a light beam of distributed intensity emerges from a limited area, preferably central, of the transparent cover or lens, and this area only is provided with polarizing- means. By this arrangement, only the part of the beam that is apt to interfere with the vision of an approaching driver is polarized, whilst the intensity of the remaining and greater part of the beam is not diminished. As applied to the headlamp described in Specification 515,091 and comprising a lens or cover 11 formed on the inner face with groups 12, 13 of flutes or prisms, the group 12 is covered by a polarizing-film 14 which is cemented to the flat or curved outer face of the lens. A protecting-disc 15 is cemented to the film.
