[Also in Group XIII] A steam-generator furnace includes a cyclone furnace 1 fired by pulverulent fuel and delivering into a vortex chamber 25 in which cooled combustion products are mixed with the gases issuing from the cyclone chamber, the resultant mixture then passing over heat-exchange surfaces at a temperature below that at which deposition of material in a sticky condition is liable to occur. The mass flow rate of the recirculated gases is at least 70 per cent of the mass flow rate of the hot gases leaving the cyclone furnace. The combustion gases, after passing over convection surfaces, are drawn through a duct 110 by a fan 111 and delivered through duct 112 to inlets 120 spaced around the vortex chamber 25. As shown in Fig. 6, combustion products pass through a duct 154 to a heat exchanger 92 and are then partly withdrawn by fan 111 and recirculated. Air is drawn into a compressor 100, and passes through the heat exchanger 92 to a turbine 152 from which it is delivered to the cyclone furnace; the turbine 152 drives compressor 100 and fan 111.
