Abstract

721,974. Creping and drying cylinders of paper-machines. PAPER PATENTS CO. Aug. 8, 1952 [Sept. 19, 1951], No. 20011/52. Class 96. [Also in Group XIII] The surface of a fabricated or cast creping and drying cylinder of a paper-machine is chromium plated and pitted as at 53, Fig. 5, e.g. with at least 25 depressions per inch (measured in any direction), the depressions being e.g. from 20 to 200 micro-inches in depth. (Fig. 5 also shows polishing scratches 55.) The depressions may be made by etching, or by sand-blasting before or after plating. The internal construction may be as illustrated in Fig. 2, steam supply to the jacket space 17 being from an axial bore 25 and along spokes 23 covered at their ends by baffle-plates 29 to prevent irregular heating of the cylinder surface. Condensate is drawn off through pipes 37 &c.
