Mine supports comprise vertical wooden supports c, the upper ends of which are recessed in tapering sockets f on the end of steel roof struts b, the roof pressure tending to drive the wooden supports into the sockets with crushing of the wood. Wooden wedges g may be driven between the socket and the wooden support. The roof struts b may be of tubular or I section. In another modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the sockets are tubular and the ends of the struts have downwardly-pointed wedges to penetrate the wooden supports. The struts b are connected by a pivotal connection a.
