Abstract
721,567. Cooling thermionic valves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Aug. 1, 1952 [Oct. 6, 1951]. No. 19516/52. Class 39 (1). A cooling jacket for a discharge tube having an anode 2 which forms part of the tube envelope comprises an inner member 4c attached to the anode 2 throughout substantially the length of the envelope portion of said anode by a low-melting point fusible material such as soft solder and connected to an outer member 4A by a high - melting point fusible material. The jacket is divided into inner and outer chambers 11 and 12 by an intermediate member 8 connected by means such as a threaded joint (not shown) to an extended portion 10 of a base member 5 which is attached <SP>2</SP> to the outer member 4A by a low-melting point fusible material. The portion 10 is connected to the inner member 4c by means such as a threaded joint (not shown). The inner chamber 11 is provided with an inlet pipe 14 and the outer chamber 12 with an outlet port 16. The base member 5 has a central aligning post 17 seated in an aperture 21 in a mounting plate 19 provided with apertures 20 in register with the inlet pipe 14 and outlet port 16. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the mounting plate 19 showing a' screw 23 having a tapered end which seats into a tapered recess 18 in the post 17 and tends to draw the base portion 5 close to the mounting plate 19, the joint being rendered water-tight by resilient gaskets 25 mounted in retaining grooves 24 co-axial with the apertures 20 which are threaded at their lower ends to take fluid conducting pipes 27. The mounting plate 19 is attached to a frame member 29 by screws (not shown) which enter threaded apertures 28 in the underside of the plate 19.
