Abstract

A motor fuel comprises a mixture of hydrocarbons, boiling in the gasoline boiling range and having an A.S.T.M. 50 per cent distillation point below 310 DEG F., and 0.5-1 per cent by volume of morpholine. Optional ingredients of the fuel include lead alkyl anti-detonants, dyes, gum inhibitors and oxidation inhibitors. The motor fuel may be employed in automobile, marine, stationary and airplane engines and the presence of the morpholine prevents engine stalling due to carburettor icing when operating under cool moist conditions. In an example, a fuel consisting of a petroleum distillate gasoline, of 100-325 DEG F. boiling range and having an A.S.T.M. 50 per cent distillation point of 200 DEG F., and 0.25 per cent by volume of morpholine is used to operate an aircraft engine.
