Abstract

575,637. Motor fuels. WEIZMANN, C. Aug. 11, 1941, No. 10186. [Class 91] A motor fuel for internal combustion engines consists of (1) 35-70 per cent. by volume of gasoline, (2) 20-40 per cent. by volume of aromatic hydrocarbons having a boiling point substantially below 180‹C. (3) 10-25 per cent. by volume of aliphatic mono-ketones having 4-9 carbon atoms in the molecule. The preferred embodiment is the use of aromatic hydrocarbons in amounts between 20 and 30 per cent., and ketones in amounts of 10-20 per cent. Ketones mentioned include methyl ethyl ketone, pinacolone, methyl isobutyl ketone, 3:4-dimethyl-hexanone-2, 3-methyl-heptanone-2, 5-methyl heptanone-3, mesityl oxide, 3:4- dimethyl-hexene -(3)-one-(2), 5-methyl-heptene - (4)-one-(3). Ketones of the above kinds may be prepared as described in Specification 573,724, 550,099, 572,645 and 575,571, [all in Group IV]. Examples of the properties of the fuels are given. Specifications 487,776 and 487,745 also are referred to.
