Abstract

575,636. Motor fuels. WEIZMANN, C. Aug. 11, 1941, No. 10185. [Class 91] A motor fuel for internal combustion engines consists of (1) practically chemically pure paraffinic or cycloparaffinic hydrocarbons of a high octane number. (2) Aromatic hydrocarbons having a boiling point substantially below 180‹C. (3) Aliphatic or cycloaliphatic ketones containing from 4-9 carbon atoms in the molecule. Examples of aliphatic hydrocarbons mentioned include 2:4:4 - trimethyl-pentane, 2:2-dimethylbutane, 2:3 - dimethyl butane, 3:4-dimethylhexane, 3:4:5-trimethylheptane, cyclopentane. Aromatic compounds include benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes, mesitylene, and isopropyl-benzene. Ketones include methyl-isobutyl ketone, pinacolone, 3-methyl-heptanone -(2), 3:4-dimethyl hexanone -(2), 5-methyl-heptanone -(3), methylethyl ketone, methylpropyl ketone, ethylpropyl ketone, diethyl ketone, dipropyl ketone, mesityl oxide, 3:4-dimethyl-hexene-(3)-one-(2). Ketones of the above kinds may be prepared as described in Specifications 550,099, 572,645, 573,724 and 575,571, [all in Group IV]. Examples of the properties of the fuels are given. Specifications 487,745 and 487,776 also are referred to.
