Abstract

A fighting grade supercharge aviation spirit consists of, or contains a predominant amount of, a blend consisting wholly or predominantly of a minor portion of cyclopentane and a major portion of alkyl benzenes having not more than three carbon atoms in the alkyl radicles, at least one half of said alkyl benzenes being toluene. The fuel may be made up with aviation base fuel. A preferred proportion for the blend consists of 60 to 50 per cent. toluene and 40 to 50 per cent. cyclopentane. Some of the cyclopentane may be replaced by methyl tertiary butyl ether, or benzene, or a mixture thereof. Additional ingredients may be 2 : 2 : 3 : 3 - tetra methyl butane in substitution for toluene in quantity up to 10 per cent. of the fuel. Up to 6 c.c. per gallon of tetra ethyl lead may be added. Specifications 133,667, [Class 91], and 445,503 are referred to.
