Abstract

A fuel with good cold-starting characteristics and capable of rapid and complete combustion when used in a petrol engine, comprises ozonized gasoline, ozonized kerosene and methyl naphthalene, the quantity of kerosene preponderating over the quantity of gasoline and the quantity of methyl naphthalene amounting to 2-10 per cent of the total composition. The methyl naphthalene employed may be alpha methyl naphthalene or a crude alphamethyl naphthalene which contains both alpha and beta methyl naphthalenes with a small amount of paraffins. The kerosene and gasoline may be ozonized separately and then mixed or may be mixed and then ozonized together. The ozone treatment may be affected in a hermetically sealed vessel provided with a stirrer, ozone or ozonized air at a pressure of 2-3 atmospheres being continuously introduced. 1-2 per cent ozone by weight based on the final fuel composition is suggested as a suitable amount.
