Abstract

Motor spirit consists of liquid hydrocarbon and a little aldehyde and volatile base e.g. ammonia. Ether, alcohol, or other combustible may be added. 5 per cent or less of acetaldehyde, polymers of aldehyde, or of derivatives of an aldehydic character e.g. the combination product of aldehyde and ammonia, is suitable. A mixture containing a larger proportion of aldehyde and base with or without ether may be prepared and added as required to further liquid hydrocarbon.
