Abstract
721,055. Valve amplifying circuits. SANGAMO WESTON, Ltd. Jan. 8, 1953 [June 11, 1952], No. 14736/52. Class 40 (6). A D.C. amplifier comprises a double bridge circuit, the first bridge, to which the input is applied, being a valve amplifier V1, V2, arranged to give a high voltage gain, while the second is an amplifier V3, V4, developing a low output impedance. In addition, a negative feed-back connection is provided between the two bridge circuits. Valves V1, V2 comprise pentodes with anode load resistances R3, R4 respectively, and a common cathode resistance R5, each screen being fed from the opposite anode. The input is applied to the grid of valve V1, via terminals T1, T2 which are shunted by a high resistance R6. The anodes of the valves V1, V2 are connected to the grids of the second pair V3, V4 which act as cathode followers; the second bridge is completed by cathode resistances R1, R2 and R7, R8 respectively, the output being taken from points F, H. A resistance R9 is introduced into one of the heater circuits in order to reduce zero drift by causing deliberate slight unbalance of the bridge, balance being effected by adjustment of resistance R1 which is made variable. As shown, the arrangement comprises a valve voltmeter, the output being connected to a meter M. Specifications 636,212 and 645,184 are referred to.
