The extensible ladder described in the parent Specification is modified in that the upper part 5 of each metal side member is formed as a channel directed towards the neutral zone A-B, the outer edge 6 being bent inwardly towards the neutral zone. The channel 5 is joined by a horizontal portion 7 to the vertical web 3, the portion 7 serving as a runner rail for the supporting rollers of the next ladder sections.
