A printing surface, e.g. for copying workslips or the like, which consist of a heading and a variable text, comprises a heading part in the form of a permanent printing foil which requires inking, e.g. a relief or stencilled printing surface, and a text part in the form of a hectographic mirror-script original. The permanent printing foil may be of aluminium or zinc foil and may be arranged to overlap the hectographic part somewhat, being connected to it in any suitable manner. The composite printing sheet of this form may be prepared for printing by introducing it into a typewriter with a sheet of hectographic carbon paper in contact with the hectographic part. The types engaging the rear face of the printing sheet impress mirror-script relief or stencil characters in the permanent printing foil and form mirror-script characters in hectographic ink on the other part. The hectographic carbon paper may be provided attached to the composite printing sheet and adapted to be torn off after the formation of the characters thereon. The permanent printing foil may alternatively be composed of a wax matrix, a thermoplastic foil, e.g. polyvinyl chloride or cast or stamped metallic relief printing plates. The hectographic part may comprise an artprinting paper.
